27/08/09

(English version follows.)

Tacaigh leis na dugairí / Support the dockers

Bhí gníomhaígh éirígí i measc na gcéadta daoine a chuaigh le hagóid dlúthpháirtíochta ar thaobh dhugairí Bhaile Átha Cliath atá ar stailc Dé Luain (24ú Lúnasa). Bhí an tionól ar an cheann is mó fós san achrann dhá mhí idir Marine Terminals Limited (MTL) agus a n-oibrithe.

Agus dhá mhórshiúl chothaithe ag cruinniú ag droichead an Nascbhóthair Thoir bhí sé soiléir gur ghríosaigh anchás na ndugairí tine i muintir na hÉireann. Tháinig daoine den phobal áitiúil, ceardchumannaigh, gníomhaígh pholaitiúla agus daoine neamhalínithe ó fud fad na tíre leis na hoibrithe agus a dteaghlaigh. Ó na bratacha agus canúintí i measc an tslua ba léir gur thaisteal daoine ó chomh fada amach le Corcaigh agus Béal Feirste lena dtacaíocht a thaispeáint.

An mhórshiúl / The march

Ó dhroichead an Nascbhóthair Thoir mháirseáil an lucht agóide cúpla céad slat sular stad siad i ngar d’áitreabh MTL. Ag an phointe seo labhair cainteoirí ó mhol cheardchumann agus pháirtithe polaitiúla leis an slua le teachtaireachtaí tacaíochta agus dlúthpháirtíochta.

Leis na horáidí déanta rinne céadta den lucht agóide a mbealach trasna an bóthar agus chuaigh isteach i gcríochfort MTL le dul i mbun ollseilbhe siombalaí. Leis na roisc ‘Bristeoirí Stailce Amach – Dugairí Isteach’ chuaigh siad tríd na geataí agus ghlac seilbh ar oifigí an chomhlachta ag croílár an achrainn.

éirígí marches in support of Dublin dockers

Óráidí / Speeches

éirígí activists were among the many hundreds of people who joined a solidarity protest in support of the striking Dublin dockers on Monday past (August 24). The gathering was the largest yet in the two-month old dispute between Marine Terminals Limited and its employees.

As two feeder marches converged at the East-Link bridge it was clear that the plight of the dockers has struck a nerve amongst the Irish people. The workers and their families were joined by members of the local community, trade unionists, political activists and non-aligned individuals from across the country. From the banners and accents amongst the crowd it was apparent that people had travelled from as far afield as Cork and Belfast to show their support.

Cuid den slua / Part of the crowd

From the East Link bridge the protesters marched several hundred yards before stopping close to the Marine Terminals Limited (MTL) premises. At this point speakers from a variety of trade unions and political parties addressed the crowd with messages of support and solidarity.

With the speeches complete hundreds of the protesters made their way across the road and entered the MTL compound to take part in a symbolic mass occupation. To chants of ‘Scabs Out – Dockers In’ they passed through the gates and proceeded to temporarily occupy the offices of the company at the centre of the dispute.
