24/05/12 Yesterday lunchtime [May 23], éirígí activists held a ‘No to Austerity!’ information stall at the shops on the Ballyfermot Road. The stall, which took place between 12.00pm and 13.30pm, was organised to highlight the nature of the Austerity Treaty, and urge the Ballyfermot Community to vote No. Hundreds of leaflets outlining the reasons to reject the Austerity Treaty, along with hundreds more advertising the No to Austerity protest at the local Labour party constituency clinic, on Saturday May 26, were distributed.
éirígí activists met with a great response from the general public, who gave a great indication that Ballyfermot will vote No on May 31st. Speaking from Ballyfermot, éirígí Councillor Louise Minihan said, “Today’s stall received a great response from the people of Ballyfermot. Over the last number of weeks éirígí Ballyfermot has been campaigning for a No vote, and our campaign has received great support in the local area. The Ballyfermot community has come under sustained attack over the last number of years, with cutback after cutback being imposed under the austerity policies of the Dublin government. The people of this area have had enough, and have been organising themselves to fight back.
“Through local campaigns such as the Campaign Against the Household and Water Taxes, and the Save our Services Campaign, which recently brought over 200 people on to the streets of Ballyfermot, the local community has shown it will not take these attacks lying down! “On May 31st, the people of Ballyfermot have a great opportunity to reject the policies of Austerity and stand up for our Community and our Country. éirígí Ballyfermot would urge all those who want to defend our local services, and defend Irish freedom and sovereignty to Vote NO and reject the Austerity Treaty!”
