Tallaght éirígí spokesperson Scott Masterson has said that the enthusiasm displayed at recent anti-Household Tax meetings in Fettercairn and Killinarden is deeply encouraging. The socialist republican party’s spokesperson was speaking after addressing the meetings in Fettercairn and Killinarden community centres.
Masterson said, “The campaign against this unjust and immoral tax is only beginning. From what I have seen at the meetings in Fettercairn, Killindarden and across Tallaght it is clear that a large amount of people are joining the boycott of the household tax.
“I want to congratulate those members of the local community in Tallaght who participated in the meetings. But this is only just part of the work we need to do if we are to beat this tax. We need to build a mass campaign of non-payment. I would urge everyone to talk to their friends, family and neighbours to encourage them to join the boycott as well. Together we can beat this unjust tax.”
Masterson continued: “Those who missed the meetings should not feel should like they have missed out on their only opportunity to get involved. The Campaign Against the Household and Water Taxes is running a telephone hotline (1890 989800) where you can be brought right up to speed, and have any concerns or queries answered.
“And people are free to join the campaign at any time. The campaign website www.nohouseholdtax.org and hotline will provide you with the necessary details to become active in your local area in beating this disgraceful austerity tax.”
Masterson concluded: “Having spoken at a number of meetings and engaged with the public, I can safely say that the anger out there about this tax is palpable. Our next step is to convert that anger into effective action. We need people to do any small thing they can. Whether that's delivering leaflets on your street, putting bumper stickers on your car or putting a poster up in your window. No part is too small. Most importantly, however, is that people boycott this tax, and encourage their friends, work colleagues, neighbours, sports team mates and family to do likewise.”
