The CAHWT has learned that Fine Gael Minister Phil Hogan has been invited to address a meeting of the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors Ireland (APHCI) on Tuesday, February 12th. The event will take place in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, which is located beside Joel’s Restaurant on the Naas Road adjacent to Newlands Cross in south-west Dublin. The CAHWT anti-water tax protest outside the hotel will begin at 6.30pm. Speaking from Ballyfermot, Councillor Louise Minihan said, “The Fine Gael/Labour coalition’s attempt to impose a water tax on every home in this state will be fiercely opposed. The CAHWT is determined to lead a mass campaign of opposition to the new water tax. It is clear from the Dublin government’s reaction to the massive boycott of the household charge that they are seriously worried about the potential development of widespread opposition to their new property and water taxes. “While Phil Hogan and his Fine Gael and Labour colleagues continue to inflict savage assaults on our families and our communities they should be greeted with protests and made feel unwelcome where ever they go. The CAHWT is organising this protest to give local communities and anti-austerity activists the opportunity to show Phil Hogan the level of anger that exists against the water tax.” Louise continued, “I would encourage the people of Ballyfermot, Clondalkin, Palmesrtown and the surrounding areas as well as everyone opposed to the introduction of the water tax to join the CAHWT outside the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel on Tuesday, February 12th at 6.30pm and show Phil Hogan exactly what we think of the water tax.”
