Noel Maguire Transfer Protest at GPO

10/03/08

Close to thirty people, including a number of éirígí activists, took part in a Noel Maguire transfer protest on Dublin’s O’Connell Street on Saturday past (March 8). Noel, who is the last remaining Irish republican political prisoner in England, has been repeatedly denied transfer to Portlaoise prison despite his being entitled to such a transfer under European law.

Noel is now in his seventh year of a twenty-two year sentence for his alleged role in a bombing campaign in England at the start of the decade. Over the course of this time he has had very few family visits and has not seen his children at all. The campaign in support of his transfer, which has seen a number of public protests in Dublin, will continue until Noel is back in Ireland.
