The anniversary was marked by Bobby Sands quotes, poetry and a recital of Amhrán na bhFiann. In attendance was independent councillor Bernice Swift, who campaigned to elect Bobby in 1981. Cllr Swift said, “I commend the éirígí tribute to Bobby Sands on his anniversary and applaud the willing participation of all éirígí members to ‘play their part’ literally with their Irish Music Ballad and aptly reciting poetry by Bobby Sands asserting the spirit of freedom.” éirígí Fermanagh representative Kevin Martin said, “It is apt that here in Fermanagh éirígí have chosen to remember Bobby Sands. The 30,492 people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone voted in favour of what Bobby stood for in 1981 and today we re-affirm our commitment to those objectives. “The prison struggle of the 1970s and 1980s, which culminated in the 1981 Hunger Strike, was arguably the seminal Irish event of the latter half of the 20th century. The fact that Bobby and his comrades are not forgotten is testament to the sacrifice made by all who took part in that struggle.”
