Arm Shasana Náirithe i nDoire

(English version follows.)

Stalla earcaíochta san EuropaChuir rúnaí ginearálta éirígí Breandán Mac Cioinnaith fáilte roimh chinneadh arm Shasana a stalla a tharraignt amach as aonach gairmeacha ag campas Mhig Aoidh de chuid Ollscoil Uladh i gcathair Dhoire.

Rinne éirígí agóid ag cleasanna bolscaireachta agus earcaíochta de chuid arm Shasana le déanaí, ina measc ag Féile na Long Ard agus ag aonach earcaíochta in Óstán Europa i mBéal Feirste.

Cé gur eisigh arm Shasana ráiteas ag maíomh gur tharraing siad siar ó aonach gairmeacha Dhoire de bhrí ‘nach úsáid mhaith acmhainní a bhí ann’, is fiú cuimhniú gur dúirt arm Shasana ar dtús gur chuir siad paráid leis na Muirshaighdiuirí Ríoga ar ceal ag imeacht na Long Ard mí Lúnasa ‘as siocair drochaimsire’. Ní go dtí i ndiaidh na himeachta gur admhaigh arm Shasana go poiblí gurbh é an agóid a bhí beartaithe ag éirígí an fáth do chúlú gasta na Muirshaighdiúirí.

Arsa Mac Cionnaith: “Sa chathair ina rinneadh ár Dhomhnach na Fola, bheadh sé ina mhasla d’arm Shasana earcaíocht a iarraidh ar champas ollscoile.

“Bhí ar arm na Breataine stop a chur lena stalla earcaíochta mar gheall ar easpa spéise, rud a léiríonn nach bhféachann tromlach de shaoránaigh na hÉireann ar inneall cogaíochta na Breataine mar rogha gairme eiticiúil.

“Bhí lucht earcaíochta na Breataine náirithe agus uiríslithe ag gníomhartha éirígí le linn a cleasanna bolscaireachta; d’fhéadfadh seo bheith ina fhachtóir sa chinneadh an stalla earcaíochta i nDoire a chur ar ceal.”

Chríochnaigh Mac Cionnaith: “A fhad is a bhfuil inneall cogaíochta na Breataine ag iarraidh saoránaigh na hÉireann a earcú in áiteanna poiblí, tabharfaidh éirígí dúshlán dóibh. Tá cealú an stalla i Mag Aoidh ina chomhartha spreagúil nach bhfuil an lucht earcaíochta ag déanamh aon dul chun cinn.”

British Army Embarrassed in Derry

Tall Shipséirígí general secretary Breandán Mac Cionnaith has welcomed the British army’s decision to withdraw its stall from a careers fair at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus in Derry City.

éirígí has held a number of protests at recent propaganda and recruitment stunts by the British military, including at the Tall Ships Festival and at a recruitment fair at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.

While the British army issued a statement saying that they had withdrawn from the Derry careers fair “as it was not seen as a good use of resources”, it’s worth recalling the British army originally said they had cancelled a parade by the Royal Marines at the Tall Ships event in August “due to wet weather”. It was only afterwards that the British army admitted publicly that the planned éirígí protest was the real reason for the Marines’ swift retreat.

Mac Cionnaith said: “In the city where the Bloody Sunday massacre was committed, it would have been an insult for the British army to attempt to recruit on a university campus.

“The fact that the British army has had to pull the plug on its recruitment stall due to a lack of interest is demonstrative of the fact that the vast majority of Irish citizens do not view the British war machine as an ethical career option.

“British military recruiters have been embarrassed and humiliated by recent éirígí actions during their publicity stunts; this may also have been a factor in the decision to cancel the Derry recruitment stall.”

Mac Cionnaith concluded: “As long as the British war machine is attempting to recruit Irish citizens in public places, éirígí will challenge them. The cancellation of the Magee stunt is an encouraging sign that the recruiters are not making any headway.”
